The Stages
Pic 1. Making the end-ply and walnut stripe inserts
Pic 2. Shaping the chair seat and back into surfboard shapes with the bandsaw
Pic 3. Routing the intersecting hole for the two surfboard parts
Pic 4. Cutting out the wave shapes using the bandsaw
Pic 5. Each wave is made from 2 parts and consists of 3 layers of 18mm ply. Each one is screwed together and belt sanded to round off the edges
Pic 6. Each wave is pinned to the chair seat for added stability
Pic 7. Back board is sanded out with a curved sanding disc on an electric drill to make it comfortable for the users back. The same is done to the seat.
Pic 8. A book rack is made on the rear of the chair by steam bending pine dowel into curved pieces and glued into holes drilled into the back of the seat and the rear cross bracing.
Pic 9.After a lot of sanding through grits 80 to 600, a Danish oil was applied to produce the finished chair.
